You Can Buy Potty Training Videos Online
You want to buy potty training videos online? Who do the videos train-you or the baby? Maybe they're cute, and maybe you and/or your baby will enjoy them. Maybe they'll even help with potty training. If you want them, go ahead and buy them. Download some free potty training stickers and a chart, too. Maybe you should get a musical potty chair (does it tinkle when the baby does?) and some floating targets for your little boy, too. Whatever you like and whatever you think might help you potty train your baby, go ahead and get it.
The Real Low-Down On Potty Training
Here's the real low-down on potty training, though. All those cute potty training videos and gimmicky items won't help if your baby isn't ready.
Babies aren't ready for potty training until their little bodies are mature enough for them to be able to (1) know what a full bladder or rectum feels like and (2) voluntarily hold and release urine and poop. The age that they can do that varies, but it's usually between 1-3 years, and it happens later in boys than it does in girls. They usually learn to pee in the potty before they figure out the poop thing.
How do you know if your baby is ready for potty training? She'll tell you in her own way. One little girl removes her diaper as soon as she wets it. Sometimes a little boy will clutch his penis just before he goes. When the baby becomes aware of her body and notices things like urine coming from it, and she begins to associate being wet with being uncomfortable, she is ready for potty training. When the baby is ready, it will go smoothly.
One exception to the "going smoothly" assurance is getting little boys to go in the toilet. You can get them to stay dry, but sometimes they'll just pull their britches down and go pee anywhere they happen to be. Especially if they are busy doing something really fun and don't have time to make it all the way to the toilet.....
Those floating targets may help to turn him on to the toilet. It's fun to sink the targets, and he may enjoy it enough to make it all the way there most of the time. (Just being honest...sometimes little boys don't hit the toilet 100% of the time into their 40's, 50's and beyond.) Cheerios make adequate floating targets, and they're cheap.
Wait until your baby is ready for potty training, and then buy all the potty training videos online that you want, along with all the other helps and gimmicks you want. But don't you think that "Fourteen Sing Along Songs, Including, 'I'm On The Potty,'" will drive you absolutely over the wall?
