How To Initiate A Distance Education Course
When you are ready to start an online degree program, it's easy to begin, to initiate a long distance education course.
Getting Accepted
The first step is to get accepted into the program. An advisor will help you complete the necessary paperwork, get your transcripts and meet other admission requirements. You may be able to take that first class before you are fully accepted, but you can't complete your degree without being admitted to the program.
Planning
The next step is to plan which classes you need to take and in what order. An advisor can help you with that. An advisor can help you find out if there are alternate ways to complete a particular course, too. You may be able to test out of the class, or prove that you have learned the material through seminars.
Paying For It
You need to figure out how to pay for your distance education courses. Nearly all schools that offer online courses can help you find financial aid to pay for your education.
And then you initiate a distance education course. Your first course toward your degree. You can start whenever you are ready. Gather whatever books and materials you need, and start working on your degree.
Initiating a New Course
On occasion, someone will need a class that is not offered through the distance learning program she is in. There are four ways to handle that situation.
1. You can ask for an exemption and try to get out of taking the course. Usually, though, it's not the program that requires the course or they would offer it. Most of the time, if this situation arises you need the course for an employer or something.
2. You can take the course at another school. Most schools have procedures to facilitate this.
3. You can ask your advisor to help you create a self-directed learning plan that meets the course requirements. Most schools have a procedure for granting credits for self-learning projects.
4. You can ask to initiate a distance education course that's new. Your advisor should be able to help you petition the school to start a new course.
Once you have completed each of those e-learning courses, one by one, you will have completed your degree. Congratulations.
